Our Chiropractic Techniques

Think of an adjustment as “tuning” a piano, adjusting each string so it produces the perfect tone.

Adaptable Care Based on Client Needs

The first thing to remember when coming to the clinic for a chiropractic adjustment is that it isn’t painful and shouldn’t hurt. If you do experience any discomfort, tell the chiropractor so that your adjustment technique can be altered.

There are different types of adjustments. The one we will use for you will depend on what you are comfortable with and on your medical condition.

Techniques We Prefer and Use

This is the standard technique used by universities and chiropractic colleges when teaching trainee chiropractors.
A specific type of thrust called the ‘pisiform contact’ thrust is delivered manually to adjust a joint and restore normal neurologic function to the area.

It is used to correct misalignment and can be useful if the joint is ‘stuck’.
It has quick and direct results.

Thompson (Drop Table)

This technique uses a special table with three sections that can be elevated separately and are designed to drop down when pressure is applied.

The chiropractor applies a gentle thrust and relies on the dropping action of the elevated table segment to assist in the adjustment. This allows for an adjustment requiring less force applied by the chiropractor than in a traditional diversified technique.

This is a gentler highly effective approach, suitable for people who don’t like the ‘popping’ noise of diversified adjustments and for people who are in acute pain. Read more»

Activator Technique

The activator is a handheld, spring loaded device which delivers a thrust instead of the chiropractor doing it by hand.

This is thought to be the safest form of chiropractic, without any unintended effects. It clears the interference in the nervous system without inadvertantly causing injury.

The thrust of the activator applies less force than a manual adjustment, but tends to bring about a greater result than the drop table technique. Read more »»
